June 5th, 2013. Over 50,000 raised (by Tx Ok) for Oklahoma relief effort by Kiwanis clubs and individuals around the world.

It's hard to imagine the scope of damage left behind by an EF5 tornado that hits an urban area. In the Oklahoma storms, lives were lost and many thousands of people were left to cope with lost homes, jobs, injuries, and fear.
|
| Churches, schools, homes and businesses were leveled by the largest tornados in Oklahoma history. Families were left homeless and shelters filled quickly. Children are particularly affected when everything is lost. |

It's when the hours are darkest that humanity shines it's brightest. Organizations from all over the country quickly rushed to Oklahoma to help those who needed assistance. The Texas Oklahoma Kiwanis Disaster Relief Team was one of those organizations. |
Over 700 backpacks with supplies delivered to people who lost their belongings in the May tornados, and more supplies are on the way. The TxOk district has pledged to help the children in the affected towns, not just with personal backpacks, but with school supplies, books, and other things they need.
Our district has friends all over the country, and all over the world. Kiwanis members from clubs around the U.S. came to Oklahoma to help in the relief effort. A very special club, the Cortana Kiwanis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, made a 1500 mile round-trip to Carney, Oklahoma, to cook a special meal for the townspeople, first responders, and Kiwanis volunteers. It's a very cool story and you can read about it "here".
May 31, 2013. Kiwanians pack 500 more backpacks for Oklahoma, to be delivered Saturday morning, June 1st. This is how it is done on a big scale.

6 truckloads of materials are delivered to a building on the campus of TWU in Denton. The supplies are separated, packing lists are handed out, and volunteers walk through the tables and pack bags according to their list. Bags are packed for toddlers, young children, older children and adults, according to gender. Once they are delivered, they will be matched with people who are either in a shelter, or have their names registered with FEMA, Salvation Army, or with the local city disaster relief office. Only people directly affected and have lost their homes to the recent tornadoes will receive the backpacks.

500 backpacks being loaded and labeled on Friday, May 31st. You can see the TxOk district logo imprinted on the front of each pack.
May 24, 2013. Members from many different Kiwanis clubs deliver backpacks with supplies to people in small towns in Oklahoma affected by recent tornadoes.

700 packs will be delivered to Moore and smaller towns in Oklahoma. The first 200 packs arrived May 24. More are being packed and will be delivered within days. See our facebook page for more pictures: http://tinyurl.com/noo7s5h
May 20, 2013. A huge EF5 tornado devastates the community of Moore, Ok., leaving hundreds of people homeless. Kiwanis is there to help immediately.
The Texas Oklahoma District has a disaster relief program that provides material relief to people who have lost their homes due to natural disasters. There are many thousands of children affected each year in Texas and Oklahoma due to tornados, floods, wild fires, and other causes. The Moore tornado on Monday, May 20th, destroyed hundreds of homes, businesses and schools leaving families struggling to cope with sudden loss. Kiwanis clubs and community members across the 2 states immediately stepped up to help folks in Moore by packing emergency disaster relief backpacks filled with toiletries (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo), medical packs, spare socks, toys, baby wipes, powders, t-shirts, etc. The backpacks are packed according to gender and age groups and will be delivered to the shelters.
